Background: The
Iron Fist Corporation has taken over the world and the Resistance is
the only hope left. The Resistant has captured a prototype weapon from
the IFC which is a 42 foot tall robot called the Iron Soldier. Over
the 16 missions you have many weapons are at your disposal including
the standard manipulator (your fist), a cassy assault rifle, chain
cutter, hand grenades, gattling gun, and rocket launcher.
Game Play: The control is proficient
enough once you get over the moderate learning curve. The graphics are
good and it is fun to destroy the various buildings-you can stomp on
them! This game can be hard at times with ships and helicopters flying
over you and you try to shoot them all down. Overall this is a fun
shooter and has a sequel.
Pros: graphics, fun shooter
Cons: difficult, hard at first to control |

Review from Area 64: The Jagzone,
Heath Anderson
Story: Industry
has taken over the planet. Three-quarters of the Earth’s surface is
covered with concrete and steel cities and wastelands, The Iron Fist
Corporation (IFC) has used military force to conquer national
governments and create a worldwide dictatorship.
Recently, the IFC developed a new weapon for use
in urban areas: a 42-foot tall piloted robot, known as the Iron
Soldier (or, IS). With such a weapon, they will have no trouble
maintaining their hold on the populace.
However, an organization has been formed to stop
the IFC. This group known as the Resistance, has even managed to
capture an early production model of the Iron Soldier unit.
This is where you come in. As a member of the
Resistance, your job is to pilot the Iron Soldier in a one-man war
against Iron Fist. The fate of the world rests on your shoulders, but
at least your IS’s shoulders can mount rockets.
Graphics: The graphics in iron soldier
are mostly gouraud shaded polygons, it doesn’t look bad, but it
doesn’t hold up well against the offerings of newer systems. The
frame-rate is constant and the enemies are texture-mapped, and are the
high point in the graphics, the explosions are also very pleasing to
the eye.
Control: This game uses almost every
button on the controller, so it takes a few minutes to get used to,
but if you take the time to practice, it will become second nature.
Game play: Iron Soldier is one of most
enjoyable games I’ve ever played. For some reason, lumbering around
in a 42-foot tall robot, and blowing up enemies in a completely 3-D
environment, makes you want to come back for more and more. |
